Why Closed-Source AI Platforms Should Concern Everyone? #MarkZuckerberg

CEO Mark Zuckerberg has expressed concern over the threat of closed-source AI platforms developed by competitors (pointing to OpenAI and Google) potentially creating an all-powerful, God-like AI to do ‘everything.

‘Meta AI is now embedded into Instagram, Facebook, and even WhatsApp, and it is learning and training models on our conversations, which is also a concern in itself.

There is a question: is there anything that will not have AI?

Recently, Apple launched Apple Intelligence, which transformed the outdated Siri in iPhones and now uses a system-wide GenAI with complete ChatGPT force.

Apple fans were excited, but many tech experts, including Elon Musk, have slammed this system-wide integration, arguing that it would mean no privacy. Musk even stated via X that he would ban Apple devices in his offices and keep them in a Faraday cage.

Every company is moving in an AI race, like the US and Russia went in the race to the moon in the 1960s. The world is divided into two parts: one supporting the AI revolution and the other opposing the unchecked, unregulated advancements in AI. But the only company profiting either way is NVIDIA, which sells shovels (chips) while everyone digs for gold (GenAI).

The upcoming decade is going to revolutionize how the world works. AI and robots will replace many idle, unskilled labor jobs, and new jobs that will either develop, manage, or operate these technologies will emerge. However, no one is sure how significant this change will be.

Although there is excitement and enthusiasm about super AI, there is also a fear in our minds, perfectly filmed by the scene from Christopher Nolan’s Oscar-winning movie Oppenheimer, where the infamous J. Robert Oppenheimer, played by Cillian Murphy, has a monologue:

“We imagine a future, and our imaginings horrify us. They won’t fear it until they understand it. And they won’t understand it until they have used it.”

The question is, is AI the nuclear bomb of this century?
